OWL-oween Nature Program Returns to Joslin Garden in 2021

Owls! Owls! And more owls! Get ready for Halloween and learn about owls  (and other birds) in a beautiful outdoor setting at Joslin Garden on Halloween, Sunday, October 31st from 1PM-4PM (New Day and Time).

The City of Oaks Foundation and American Wildlife Refuge are sponsoring a fun family nature program with three different kinds of owls, maybe a hawk or another raptor, and an old vulture named Snoopy!  Take a tour of different stations to learn about each bird or animal, and enjoy other activities for kids and adults spread over the Joslin Garden property.

Your voluntary donations will support the American Wildlife Refuge, who rescue, take care of, and release these birds. There is no set ticket price, but all who attend are encouraged to give. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Please note: This is an outdoor event, with unlevel surfaces and natural trails. Some areas may be inaccessible to guests with limited mobility.

Donations:

Please donate, via cash, check, or by making a voluntary donation through EventBrite. The most important thing needed for these birds is money, for buying food and medicine and paying for their safe lodging while they are being treated.

We are also collecting used blankets, sheets, and towels that are useful in the AWR's recovery efforts that may be brought to Joslin Garden during the event.

FAQs

Can I touch one of the birds?

No. Federal law actually prohibits the animal handlers from letting the audience touch the birds, out of concerns for the animals' welfare. This is a licensing requirement of the animal handlers.

Are there minimum age requirements to enter the event?

No, this event is intended to be child-friendly.

This is a residential neighborhood. Where do I park?

Please park on W. Lake Drive on the side of the road away from the neighbors's houses. Parking is not permitted in the drive way.

What can I bring into the event? Can I bring my pet?

Pets are not permitted at this event due to insurance concerns and because of the other live animals on the property. You may bring your own food and drink, folding chairs, or blankets.

Is photography permitted?

Volunteers from the American Wildlife Refuge will be offering photographs with the birds for a donation.  Please be respectful of others. Only photography for personal use is permitted.   Photography for commercial use is not permitted, because of federal laws and wildlife regulations regarding the use of captive raptors.

What's the refund policy?

Tickets are not required, but the event is intended to raise funds to support the rescue and rehabilitation of these animals and birds. Voluntary donations made via EventBrite cannot be refunded as EventBrite charges the Foundation a non-refundable fee for each transaction.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No. The tickets are used to help us with planning, and to communicate with visitors coming to the event. There is no need to bring a paper ticket to the event.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Please contact the City of Oaks Foundation at 919-355-6998, or info@cityofoaksfoundation.org with any questions.
