The Scarecrow Walk Returns to Joslin Garden



Design a scarecrow to place along the trails, or just enjoy the creative seasonal decorations at Joslin Garden for our Halloween Scarecrow Walk! Scarecrows will be displayed from Oct.25 - Nov. 19.

We invite all manner of scarecrows, subject to the conditions below, but we would especially like to encourage entries using recycled materials or ones that promote sustainability! The City of Oaks Foundation will highlight particularly innovative entries throughout the season, through its publications and social media feed.

Enter the Contest

All scarecrows should be delivered to Joslin Garden by noon on Sunday, Oct. 24. A prize (or prizes) will be awarded for the "best in show" - please indicate if you are entering as a youth or as an adult. Late submissions accepted on a case - by - case basis.

Scarecrows will be displayed from the morning of Monday, October 25 and will be taken down the morning of Saturday, November, 20. Visitors are welcome to view the scarecrows and the garden anytime from 7AM-7PM during this event.

The Garden, located at 2431 West Lake Drive, was developed by William and Mary Coker Joslin and comprises more than four rolling, wooded acres, with an extensive variety of rare and native plants.

CONTEST DETAILS

  • While creativity is encouraged, that the contest will not accept designs considered to be confrontational, offensive, or political in nature. Scarecrows should be family friendly and the City of Oaks Foundation reserves the right to accept or reject any design

  • The City of Oaks Foundation cannot guarantee that scarecrows will not be damaged by weather, animals, or other circumstances, and I hold the Foundation harmless for any damage to my scarecrow.

  • The City of Oaks Foundation will be the final authority on awarding any prizes in the contest, and for selecting the prizes. Prizes are for recognition only and will likely have only nominal value.

  • Designers may pick up their scarecrows anytime, after providing notification to the City of Oaks Foundation. After the end of the event, designers will be notified by the Foundation to pick up their scarecrows. Scarecrows not claimed more than 7 days after the event may be discarded.

  • Space for scarecrows is limited and that once a certain number of entries are received, the Foundation may not be able to accept additional entries.

  • After receiving a confirmation of registration from the Foundation, designers may deliver scarecrows to 2431 W. Lake Drive (Joslin Garden) and leave it on the front porch before noon on October 24th.

  • Designers should take a picture of their scarecrow and email it to the Foundation at info@cityofoaksfoundation.org with their contact information to match up everyone to their entry.
