Our staff, led by Executive Director Chris Heagarty, manages the Foundation on a day-to-day basis.
Chris Heagarty is an attorney and professional executive with over fifteen years of experience in nonprofit leadership and management. He is a long-time supporter of conservation and environmental protection in the region, and has been an effective problem-solver and advocate working with business leaders, and federal, state, and local governments to bring people together to reach effective public policy solutions.
Chris grew up in the Leesville area of northwest Wake County, before it was within the city limits of Raleigh and when it was a community of mostly low-density neighborhoods, farms, and vast areas of green-space. Times change, and though many of the areas where he played as a child have been replaced by suburban shopping centers, apartment complexes, and new higher-density neighborhoods, he and his family now live adjoining the Capital Area Greenway System, where his children enjoy hiking, biking, and playing at Raleigh’s Lake Lynn Park.
