The City of Oaks Foundation is now a partner with the City of Raleigh in sponsoring the Raleigh Environmental Awards program to recognize outstanding work in environmental stewardship.
In recent years the program has grown in scope, offering awards, cash prizes, and micro-grants, to recognize past accomplishments and to encourage continued work in conservation. In addition to honoring outstanding community partners in environmental stewardship, award categories also include special prizes for high school students and urban agriculture implementation grants to subsidize local food efforts.
Environmental Awards are given in eight categories:
- Raleigh Environmental Stewardship Award (RESA)
Recognizing an individual or organization, demonstrates environmental leadership while recognizing the interconnected relationship between the environmental, economic, and equitable aspects of human society.
Recognizing an individual or organization for a lifelong or long-term contribution to environmental stewardship.
Recognizing young individuals, or groups working with young people, demonstrating environmental stewardship.
Recognizing a person contributing to environmental stewardship through volunteer, conservation, leadership, community-building or innovative efforts.
Recognizing a business contributing to environmental stewardship through volunteer, conservation, leadership, community-building or innovative efforts.
Recognizing an organization contributing to environmental stewardship through volunteer, conservation, leadership, community-building or innovative efforts.
- Built Environment
Recognizing green design implementation within new or existing buildings promoting a positive ecological footprint.
- Urban Agriculture (Mini-grants)
Recognizing the development of urban agricultural efforts in the city of Raleigh. Funding for urban agriculture projects may include expenses for: fences, irrigation and/or water sources, garden structures, equipment, compost, seeds and soft costs. To be eligible for consideration for the Environmental Awards, nominees must either be residents of or operate within the City of Raleigh or within the City’s extraterritorial jurisdiction or its utility service area. Elected officials are not eligible while they are serving in public office.
